A journey for American Dream - Education

Bon Voyage for my girl-friend who is on her way to America for pursuing a higher education.

It has been more than 1.5 years for my first day of pursuing my American Dream in exactly the same city, New York City (NYC) - a city with plentiful excitment, learning opportunities and cultures, and of course a charming place to be at young ages! Frankly, I do miss the city even though I also love to be at home now - I guess it is my newest "identity crisis" but it is what I chose to be in this path. I want to be a more all-rounded person, and simply expose myself to explore more of the world.

Now, my conflicting feeling is, on one hand I would like to spend enough time to learn and practice my business knowledge in this fast-growing market; however, on the other hand, I cannot wait for my return to NYC...

First Reunion with friends in Shanghai!

As I was always thinking, there are way too many different AIESEC people/alumni in the city of Shanghai now; it would be great for me to meet with some old faces and new friends again. Last night, that thought became truth - I met with people I have not seen for years, who I used to work with in AIESEC in different ocassions and it is amazing to seeing your friends in everywhere you go in the globe.

We had a rather expensive dinner but I am sure the price we paid for is a nice place and stage for people to come together and share we we went through these years/months. I had a lot of great chats with my friends. Also, we have already found a lot of follow-ups we can do! For instance, there are so many of them living/working close to my apartment; we talked about playing sports, participating in voluntary activities, etc...and I think we might well be establishing the Gourmet Club in Shanghai (just like the one we used to have in Beijing)!

Highlights for July

Half of 2006 has passed...and it is July now; there were a few key things happened and will be happening this month:

1) The Italians became the FIFA World Cup Champions for the 4th time, yeah, go Azzuri!!!

2) I enjoyed my vacation back in Hong Kong and Beijing; and it has been really really nice to see my families back home, and to taste authentic Chinese dishes again - esp. spicy fish in oil pot!!!

3) A great trip to my girlfriend's home town and met with her relatives - it's a very special trip for me.

4) I started my Shanghai assignment with the company 2 days ago; and yes, I am integrating myself in another new city again - awkwardly, in certain sense, it seems more foreign to me even compared to my former 1.5 years in the US, as locals here speak Shanghaiese in which I have no clue to the language.

5) My girlfriend is finally confirmed with her trip to New York and it's been a really hectic preparation so far; but meaningful and delightful event!

In the coming August, I will be going home (Hong Kong) for my visa interview to the US, and of course be able to spend one more weekend with my parents there.

As for the remaining time in July, I am also expecting two visits from my own sister who's taking an internship in Beijing, and then my best friend who will be posted to Hangzhou (about 2-3 hours from Shanghai); and not to mention meeting some old friends in the city!

Viva July & August 2006!
